A limited tounament at 11:00 followed by a constructed tournament at 2:00 sounds good to me. I'm more interested in constructed than limited, so that might work well.

I will mix up the tournaments formats a little bit more next month, such as a Legacy with start time of 11a.m. followed by a draft at 2p.m. that way the 3-5 people who like Legacy(myself included) can play say 3 rounds and then if one or two of those people stay for the draft along with 4-5 people who show up for the draft at 2 we still have 6-7 for the draft which is plenty. And I will switch it up from time to time so we can draft at 11a.m. and do something else at 2 like a peasant tournament or just plain Extended as I hear people like Mike D. love Extended but hate a 11a.m. start time. Simple fact is people are accustomed to waking up at certain times especially the weekend and while I have worked at the Hobby Horse for 10 years now and am used to getting up at 8a.m. and opening by 10a.m. some people have different sleep preferences and I guess I can understand that. It does still surprise me when I have a All-Rare draft at 11a.m. and 25-28 people show up at more or less 11ish for that but not for other tournaments. I guess I must be doing something right for the All-Rare Drafts or I'm just giving away a shitload of good rares and prizes at a reasonable price!

Hey Ratz, I showed up because I like to play Magic. I'm not a fan of Sealed and I'm iffy on the time change. I'm fine with 2 different tournaments on Saturday, but if the first tournament has only 3 rounds that might seem like a waste for someone who lives out of town. If I spend, say an hour, making a deck for a 1.5 tournament and drive 30 minutes to T-ville to play 3 rounds is it worth it for me? If I'm sticking around for the 2nd tournament maybe.

Wow, I didn't expect to see this.
Let me just say that the majority of people only play 1-2 times a week anyways.
Don't bite the hand that feeds.
The way I see it, the Hobby Horse needs to do whatever it needs to do in order to draw a bigger crowd. If that means move the start time, do it. If that means having two tournaments, do it. It's not up to any single individual to decide or have a determining factor in what happens on Saturdays at the Horse. It is Martin and John's decision. Whatever is best for the Horse should be what is done. Saturday's tournament proved that attendence was increased, for at least one tournament. You can't deny that, because those are the facts.
I don't like playing Magic on less than 5 hours of sleep, which is what I usually get on each weekday. Saturday and Sunday are the only days that I get to catch up on all of my lost sleep during the week. Should I stay up as late as I do? Probably not. But I'm not about to change what feels best for me to go along with the crowd. I just have to hope that the crowd shifts along with me.
I find it hard to believe that I have to defend myself.

I do, however, believe that it is vital to start the "bigger" tournaments like 5/5/5 and rare drafts at 11:00. Just my opinion.

Like I said earlier, It would be nice to see who showed up and why. because the list shows people who show up saturday regardless of time, and If Ben, you only showed up because Of the time, I did not show up because of the time, and had it been at 11:00 I would have been there. so the "facts" at the moment are there was a 1-1 replacement.
I'm not asking you to defend yourself. Eveyone is completely entitled to do whatever they want to do. I was asking Martin to defend his decision to punish people who do like to play at 11:00 (and maybe it is only me) Vs. Catering to people who are lazy. And yes, If you can't get up by 11:00 you are lazy. We've all been there, when I was in college, I slept in till 2:00 in the afternoon. On school days. I was lazy too. And I have a few years on some of you and a family, so getting up is something I do. but like I said previously, I still drug myself out of bed on saturday at 10:00 to go play at the Old Root Beer Comics.
And look, If I'm the only one with a problem, then change it. Like I said we already have a 1-1 switch so at this point if the time switch brings in 1 more person then there is already a positive change.
Oh and on a seperate note, where are these parties that keep you up until 4-5 in the morning, because I like to throw down on occasion and I can buy beer. Of course driving may prove to be an issue.

And let me clarify lazy. If you are working in the soup kitchen, or babysitting children at the orphanareum, or changing diapers at the old folks home until 3:00-4:00 in the morning, then I apologize.

To get an idea of what I go through, heres my schedule:
         Sunday: Nothing.
Monday: Wake up at 5:00 A.M. Go to work until 4:00 P.M. Peruse the television/video game world until 10:00-11:00 P.M. Go to bed at around 12:00 A.M.
Tuesday: Wake up at 5:00 A.M. Go to work until 4:00 P.M. Play Magic at 5:30 P.M. Leave Magic at around 8:30-9:30 P.M. Watch television for a while, while sorting cards, usually until about 11:00 P.M. Go to bed at around 11:30 P.M.
Wednesday: Wake up at 5:00 A.M. Go to work until 4:00 P.M. Peruse the television/video game world until 9:00-10:00 P.M. Go to bed around 11:00 P.M.
Thursday: Wake up at 5:00 A.M. Go to work until 4:00 P.M. Peruse the television/video game world until 9:00-10:00 P.M. Go to bed around 11:00 P.M.
Friday: Wake up at 5:00 A.M. Go to work until 4:00 P.M. Go play Magic at 6:00 P.M. Leave Magic at around 9:00-10:00 P.M. Go to bed around 12:00 P.M.
Saturday: Nothing, unless cool Magic tournament.

So, from Monday to Friday, I'm getting about 22 hours of sleep, or less, because I usually stay up later than most of those times. Why? Because I build and test decks/play video games that I enjoy/watch entertaining movies/tv shows, etc. So, the math is simple. I should get around 56 hours of sleep per week. However, during the weekdays, I'm getting 22, or less. To even be able to keep that lifestyle up, I HAVE to get my sleep somewhere, and I'm NOT going to sleep all day on Sunday when I have to get up early on Monday. Even if I get 12 hours of sleep on Saturday, and 8 on Sunday, thats 42 hours or less. Very bad, especially for a big guy like me. I'm not lazy at all. AT ALL. I could probably go to sleep an hour or two earlier on the weekdays, but I'm not going to cater to the 11:00 start time if I don't want to. Apathy. Since I already played two tournaments during the week, I feel that I could either take or leave the Saturday tournament.

After all, it really doesn't matter, because Martin has stated that there will be two tournaments on Saturdays.

Yeah, I am familiar with the Teenage biology thing, as I always slept through my classes after lunch. And it sucks to be getting up at 5:00 in the morning to go to work. Stupid commutes. Like I said we make our choices on what we want to do. I want to play magic.
This isn't or shouldn't be about you getting or not getting enough sleep. It also shouldn't be about changing times for certain functions because you do or do not get enough sleep. If sleep is keeping you from doing things you want to be doing than you need to change your habits. If it isn't then don't change a thing.
This was about Martin changing the time. Which altered what I get to do, because of someone(s) (not necessarily yours) inability to make it to the shop by 11:00. And I have yet to hear a good reason why.
And, wether it matters our not I love a good discussion!

I would also caution you that prolonged lack of sleep and bad sleeping habits can be extremely harmful to your health. You aren't nearly as bad as my brother had been, but in college he would stay up for literally 3-5days (apparently counter strike is like crack) and then sleep 2 days straight. No specific schedule. Sometimes his 2 days sleep would fall during the week, and sometimes it didn't. Hurting his school work and him physically it is not something i would suggest for anyone.

It seems like a dispute that shouldnt even happen honestly. Life has many things that you guys arent going to agree with, i doubt that hobbyhorse starting times are it. This is something that is up to the shopkeep, and that is that. If you like magic enough, then you will play. If you dont, then you wont play. There is no use complaining about it.

One last thing, i dont mean to offend anyone with that last post. I just think that with 2 tournaments on saturday, FNM on friday, and a tornament on tuesday, that the hobbyhorse has a little something for all who wish to play. I wish that i had more time to play.

Your brother is correct. Counter strike is like crack. Also, Crack is like crack. These are my thoughts.
