Heres a conundrum
How do you prove if this happens?
Say we're drafting. It's a thieves auction draft. One of the players drafts a foil rare(Elspeth). Nobody knows that they have an Elpseth until it is played in the draft. What if somebody switches out the Foil for the Regular version of the card? Is there any way to be able to tell if somebody did that?
I'm trying to think of a solution to be able to tell if somebody actually did that, ripping off the actual winner. If there was a draft, there would have to be 18 rares in total for a 6 person draft, plus the foil rares. If somebody were to replace that foil Elspeth with a regular Elspeth there would be one extra rare. However, if that same player were to do that, they could also just hold back a regular rare that they drafted. You can't tell the number of foils. Thats crap. Something needs to be done about it, because I bet that if it didn't happen in that instance, it's happened before somewhere.

Another reason to hate thieves auction! You could have the store owner crack all the packs and take an inventory before the actual event. But then whats to stop the store owner from excluding the pack also. OR, after the drafting is done before anyone can go anywhere there can be an inventory taken.
I have cards that i have aquired through the years that have little stamps on them to ensure that only these cards are the ones that can be played. Not sure what event they came from, but i have a few.

I don't think I ever want to play in a thieve's auction again, because of that. That is straight up BS.

Man, it seems like every time I go up to Capitol City Games something always goes wrong. The first two times I was up there a match was reported wrong, making it so that I didn't make the finals, also hurting my DCI rating. They gave me a pack or two to make up for the loss and DCI rating, but that just doesn't seem like enough. Another time I got into a big scuffle with some old dude about what life I was at. He wasn't paying attention and he was wrong, but he stormed out because he got pissed. Thats the same guy I'm accusing of stealing that foil Elspeth. Capitol City won't ban him because he's a regular and gives the store money, but I just don't understand how shady people like that can actually get away with it. Is everyone out there oblivious???? Maybe it should be a rule that you can't have anything on you during tournaments besides your deck and supplies to play, making sure to exclude ALL OTHER CARDS!!!!

It's one thing if I lose to a good player, it's a completely different thing if I lose to a cheater.

Thieves Auction sucks and cheaters should all be hanged, drawn and quartered.

Yep that's another reason why I frown on thieves auction because if someone does crack a good foil rare what's to stop them of replacing it with a regular rare unless you have enough judges/store personal watching every pack at every table being cracked and having deck lists immediately after the draft while people are still seated there but in most stores that just isn't feasible.

of course you could just irradiate all the packs and then check for the "contaminated" cards when all is said and done.
