This Friday is standard FNM
Hey guys, I changed this Friday from sealed deck to Standard FNM just $5 entry. I hope we get at least 8 people so we can sanction it.

Not that I play on Friday very often, but what happened to Fridays just being Standard and the tuesdays thrown in for drafting?

Giving away a box for first place at a FNM tournament every once in a while could be cool, too. Hint, hint. LOL

It just seems to me that any tournament thats at the Horse that has good product for prize draws a lot of people.....

Wouldn't the entry fee for that one be $20 since no one shows up anymore?

I'd even be willing to throw money towards prizes to lower the entry fee if we had a box tournament on Friday once a month. 10 dollar entry fee and I'll cover whatever other money needed for a box. That is, if at least 8 people would show up. You peoples need to start showing up to FNM at the Horse! I want some good competition besides the regulars!

I'm down for regular FNM but not so much for the box tourney. I am already sick and tired of seeing the same decks there every week, and there will be no difference for that tourney. Jeremy would probably have to be the one to persuade me to go.

If you're sick and tired of seeing the same decks at FNM, then stop playing Standard. There are just a few decks in Standard right now. R/W Boat Brew, B/W Tokens, Faeries, 5CC, and B/R Blightning. These are the decks that you need to beat. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Unfortunatly, thats just the way it is. Doran decks will pop up here and there, and the same goes for some Esper decks, but for the majority of players it is a smart decision to play one of those decks if you are looking to win, which, if you're playing in a tournament, you should be doing.

I'm not a part of this "majority of players" you speak of. Who also said that you have to play to win. I like to have fun when I play. Winning is not that important to me. Now don't get me wrong, I do like to win. I just like to do it my own way.

Matthew Ratz, isn't playing to win playing for fun? I are confused. If you don't have to play, then how can you possibly win? I wish to meet these people that are giving you free wins. They seem like nice people.

I will try to go back to Tuesday's for drafts and Friday's for Standard FNM starting in April. I don't really mind the idea of a box tournament for the last Friday of a month but there are a lot of the same decks out there in standard right now but at least if people can stomach it for a little while longer we will have Shards Reborn and then 11th (or M10) that will add to the card pool.

Lets face it.... the economy sucks, people have gotten out of Magic and people have lost jobs!!! That is what is up with attendance. Me personally; I just am bored with constructed Magic. Josh has a fiancee. Saxxon has things going on. Tony can't make Fridays. People have sold off collections, some to make ends meet and some because they can still borrow decks from others. The Ratz's may be in the same boat as me as far as only making it to one tourney in Taylorville per week due to family and costs. Cheap tourneys and the cheap league play seem to be the way to go at the moment. Drafts are a fortune!!!! I know I have not been down for any constructed tourneys lately, but I hear the bitchin'. "Last extended tourney, Teps galore. Boring, same thing every match." Ben may be right about the box tournaments. I think they may work for a bit, but remember, Martin quit doing box tournaments because attendance fell off and we could hardly get any people to come to those. Correct me if I am wrong, but has league play garnered the most people as of late to the Horse?

The league does seem to have garnered a good amount of people. I think league on some of the other days, which people seem to like, and other tournaments on tuesday, such as draft, because we have a good amount of people on tuesdays.

It seems like Tuesday's draw a couple more people than Friday's anymore regardless of the format on Tuesday. And yes I think the League play has been good, it just seems that for league we get about 7 people to show up on a regular basis but I just think that is because people have other commintments on Saturday's such as Matt Ratz who showed up once so far and went 3-0 but in league play you really have to show up for all of them to have a good chance at winning the top prize.

The classic solution for those who tire of seeing the same decks every time is to build a deck that beats those decks. If you like to build rogue decks this can actually be a big advantage. Learn what decks are likely to be present and work on building a deck that will defeat those decks. This task becomes easier if only one or two decks are poular, as opposed to a field with numerous viable deck types.
