| Sooo.....Would anyone like to debate this topic? |         Which is the better overall creature: Baneslayer Angel or Tarmogoyf?

|         Tarmogoyf no doubt, the mana cost is only 2 and it can get bigger than Baneslayer and if you look in Legacy or Vintage you will see more TGoyf's being played and he would most definately be played if he was still in Standard. Now if the Baneslayer had pro red and black instead of pro demons and dragons I could make a case for it but because both will die to a lot of removal spells I gotta go with Goyf

|         You can also make the case that Goyf isn't guaranteed to be bigger than baneslayer, and in some cases it could end up being the most horrible creature ever as a 0/1. Baneslayer is ALWAYS good. In a straight up race against life totals, Baneslayer would also win. If Goyf was printed in Standard today, while it would be run alongside Baneslayer, it wouldn't have the impact that baneslayer does on the game.

|         The fact that you can even ask this question, ben, is proof that you shouldnt callout chapin on facebook! Tarmogoyf is by far the batter creature! The comparison isnt even close. Lets compare goyf with empyrial archangel. With your logic, archangel is far better. Goyf will never swing past archangel, goyf will lose the race if archangel decides to swing! But yet, goyf is much better! Why? Because the archangel player will be dead long before his angel sees play! Any deck can splash to play goyf! Every single deck in standard, nearly without exception, would play goyf! Dont get me wrong, baneslayer is the best 5-drop ever, but it isnt goyf!

|         I do like the fact that you can cast two Goyf's for four mana in one turn while 2 Baneslayer's would cost you 10 mana in the same turn. I do like Baneslayer a lot but for the mana cost Goyf still has the edge.

|         Tarmagoyf is much better. It is easy to splash, as it costs only one green mana, and it can easily be played with mana left open for countermagic. Playing Baneslayer Angel requires a mana commitment that usually forces you to tap out, and essentially gives an agressive a huge tempo advantage if they are able to kill it with a cheap removal spell. Baneslayer is still an excellent card and will easily win most head to head matchups if both cards are in play. In Vintage I think Dark Confidant is better than either of them, however.

|         Reveilark is also a pretty strong contender for best 5 drop, by the way.

|         True, reveilark is great! Maybe I was quick to declare baneslayer the best 5-drop ever. Both, however, are better than the now crappy morphling.
