The New Extended
A lot of people are actually excited by the new Extended, and a lot of articles have been written on the subject over the course of the past week. This might be the first time I have ever heard anyone excited about Extended. I really like the idea of being able to play your favorite Standard decks from the past four years again. Faeries, Jund, 5 Color Control, Reveilark and Kithkin all become viable decks again, as do fringe decks such as Doran, Elementals, Merfolk, Grixis, Elves, and many others. You can even mix and match Standard blocks, such as adding Damnation to Grixis or Jund. Radically altering Extended seems like the best idea WoTC has had in a long while.

I can definitely see some cards that have rotated out of Standard going back up in price as well. Great Sable Stag suddenly becomes very good in a world full of Faerie and Jund Decks, and Wilt-Leaf Liege and Chameleon Colossus are both brutal against Jund. I can also see Cloudthresher regaining quite a bit of popularity. Damnation should also regain its popularity, as it gives Jund an effective out against Chameleon Colossus and gives Faeries a source of mass creature elimination. Damnation is a card that was never really good enough for Eternal formats (neither is Wrath of God), but should really shine in the new Extended.

I agree that the new extended will be great. However, I have to dispute something that you said, christian. You claimed that my homeboy, DORAN, was a fringe stratagy. I beg to differ. Lets look at some of DORANs acomplishments = Doran is a formal world champion, Doran won plenty of reigional and state championships, Won an extended pro tour, It won several PTQs in both old extended and standard formats! In my opinion ( I could be wrong here ) Doran is a good EDH general as well!

Doran is good. Elementals, Merfolk, Grixis, and Kithkin are among my favorite decks and they are also good. The big guys in the new Extended appear to be Faeires, Jund, and 5 Color Control at the moment. Everyting else is probably a tier 2 (or fringe0 strategy at the moment. These are the decks you see popping up in top 8 lists of (or even winning)large tournaments occasionally but not consistently. It's not intended as an insult. I like to play "fringe" decks.
RDW strategies might also be in the tier 1 category if Faeries and Jund are extremely popular, as it has historically been strong against both strategies. In the new Extended you have a pretty strong list of red cards to choose from, including Figure of Destiny, Plated Geopede, Blood Knight, Ball Lightning, Goblin Ram-Gang, Demigod of Revenge, Lightning Bolt, Incinerate, Flame Javelin, and many more.

Red is getting better and better all of the time. Reds biggest 2 weaknesses historicaly speaking have been a lack of a good 2 drop creature and color hoseing hate cards like cop red. These problems are delt with effectively in the new extended. Kargan Dragonlord and bloodknight are amazing 2 drops ( I hope that bloodknight sees a reprint soon! )

Plated Geopede is another solid 2 drop, and I really like Ember Hauler (the mono-red Goblin Legionaire) out of 2011 as well. And Goblin Guide and Figure of Destiny give you some strong 1 drops. The amount of quality burn you have available means Incinerate might not even make the cut. Volcanic Fallout should be strong. It might even be a maindeck card if Faeires becomes popular enough. A splash of black for Blightning and Anathemancer is also a possibilty, particularly if 5 Color Control becomes a popular deck choice.
