Connely Woods Esper
The esper deck that beat me last round has an article about it on channelfireball.com. Its a pretty good article, he mentions all the people who played it, including my opponent. I posted a comment on the bottom of the page and he responded to it about how the jund matchup seems to go.

I really think that deck is not that good. I really think that guy just got some nuts draws against you. Jeremy and P-Dude both played that deck last Friday and got pwned by Jund hardcore!

Lulz, I feel sorry for anyone who has to rely on Jund in topdeck mode.

im pretty sure a bloodbraid or a blightning on the draw would have beat you 2 its not like there was only one card in his deck that would have won he had only used 1 bolt out of 4 no vlightning out of the 4 and no bloodbraids at all it seems like he actually had bad luck all match and thats the only reason it was close

The Esper deck is probably a slight underdog against Jund. I'm guessing it wins about 45% of the time.

The esper vs. jund match is all about the # of blightings from the jund player vs. espercharm. I try ( and ive had some sucsess ) to hold of jund with wall and with removal. Then, when the jund player is down to 2-3 cards in hand, I try to espercharm his removal away so that my creatures can survive. I have been playing the esper deck for about 2 weeks and have played vs. jund 3 times and beat it twice. However, one win vs jund was because of my opponent mulling to 5 game 1, to 6 game 2( he won that game ) and mulling to 4 game 3. I feel lucky to have won that match!

Neither Path to Exile nor Day of Judgement are particularly good in this matchup either. An early Path normally ramp your opponent into being able to cast a Broodmate Dragon or Siege-Gang Commander very quickly. Day of Judgement often creates 3 Saporling Tokens or leaves you open to being hit by manlands/Bloodbraid Elf. Oblivion Ring is vulnerable to Malestrom Pulse, particularly if you have multiple O-Rings in play or have one targeting Siege-Gang Commander or Broodmate Dragon. Jace is miserable in this match, as he always is against Jund. The Celestial Purges in the sideboard are nice though.

True, path can be problematic, but the key is useing your reomval wisely. In an ideal situation, you path thrinax or a manland. If you can neutarlize these threats, day becomes much better. It is a daunting match, to be sure, but I would say, at the worst, it is 50-50. The esper deck is MUCH less forgiving or play mistakes, however. It is very difficult to play the esper deck correctly. You usually have to be 2 turns ahead with your plans to win with this deck.

I agree. Thje tough choice with Path to Exile is whether to path the second turn Putrid Leach. If you do you ramp them into a big creature. If you don't he can often get in enough damage single handidly for the opponent to burn you to death. Pathing thrinax of a man land is the ideal choice, but you have to be careful of them burning the thrinax in response, unless you are holding a Day of Judgement. I think the match will become much more favorable with the introduction of Condemn and Mana Leak from 2011. In a control deck Condemn does everything you wan path to do (except maybe killing a Siege-Gang Commander), and Mana Leak gives you a strong defense against every spell in their deck without needing to maindeck Flashfreeze. Having four more defenses against Blightning and being able to stop every threatning creature in their deck is a big deal.

Honestly, I think this matchup will go more in favor of Esper post M11. Now that the Obsinate Baloth is in the format, and since both Naya and Mythic, as well as random Eldrazi Monument decks, have access to green dudes, running Blightning in the main is not really a good idea. And I'm not so sure that blightning is going to gtet a place in the sideboard.

This was on Evan Erwin's "The Magic Show", so I'm 100% sure it's correct.

I'm inclined to agree. Blighting was played considerably less frequently when Wilt-Leaf Liege was in Standard.
