| Basic island? Merfolk is a great deck, one of the best legacy decks out there, but as far as I know, no other deck runs many islands.

| Almost every deck uses 1-2 copies of each basic land type the deck plays. You need to in order to play around Wasteland/Price of Progress, but a 1-2 of each basic is usually plenty. I think High Tide decks also use a lot of basic islands, but that;s about all I can think of.
