Including our site. Spoiler is complete minus the 20 basic lands...which I'm not putting in.

So what are your guys' thoughts on the set? Like it? Hate it? How big of a impact will it make on the Standard environment?

Having only a cursory look at Scars, I think the impact will be large, but not because it's a super awesome set. Rather, the impact will be felt because of so many sets leaving (e.g. M10, Shards Sets). There seems to be A LOT of equipment, which is weird. I think the infect ability is going to have some impact, in much the same way wither did, but with the added bonus of some poison wins. Trust me...there will be poison wins. Metalcraft is either going to be all over the place or confined to one really good deck. Not sure which yet. White and Blue seem the most interesting with metalcraft. Overall I'm kinda so-so on this set. Maybe Mirrodin permanently jaded me towards artifact heavy sets. There are several cards I'm excited about though, and I will post a top ten shortly.

I think the only thing that excites me about this set is Infect, a green/black infect Standard deck is possible I think.

The new masticore is going to be a killer. Koth and elspeth tirel will be good, but in my opinion, venser is way over-rated. Wurmcoil engine is going to be good. I think that the new mox is horrible. I would really love to see a good myr deck take down some tournaments, but I think that I am just being hopefull. Overall, I think that this new mirrodin set is awesome, as there are several new cards that I didnt mention that are awesome. ( the new 4/3 with metalcraft that blinks comes to mind! ) I dont think that the new dual-lands are any better than the M10 dual-lands, however. The only problem that I see with the new set is that it probably is going to be the most expensive newer set in the last 6-10 years. I can think of 5 mythics off the top of my head that will be $35 or more. Ratchet bomb and the new lands will command a decent price ( I see the bomb geting $15-$25 dollars price ). This new set is going to be insanely expensive!

Non-mythic rares seldom rise above $10 these days. The planeswalkers are each pre-selling for $50.00 on Star City Games.

Usually, that is correct christian. Most rares top out at about $10 if they are good. However, look at fauna shaman. Down here you cant find a fauna shaman for under $15. And I will tell you this, grand architect is hands down better than shaman. Mark my words, there is going to be a blue ( or maybe blue/white? ) architect deck that will be a major player in standard over the next year or so.

I've been working with Mono blue grand arhitect deck, and no matter how much it is tuned, it just can't beat most of the Teir 1 decks.

I got a Fauna Shaman at Capital City for $9 a few weeks ago, and I thnk Martin has some for around $8. You are right about prices varying by region though. I remember card prices being much higher in Chicago the last time I was there. I kind of like Grand Architect as another lord in a merfolk deck, although he isn't a merfolk himself.
Overall this set seems really weak to me. Compared to Llorwyn or Shards the power level seems quite low. I like Koth a lot, but he will likely only be good in mono-red decks. Elspeth is pretty good, and Venser might have potential. At 5cc neither will likely be played as more than a 1 or 2 of though. I do like Ratchet Bomb and Wurmcoil Engine a lot. The set seems well balanced for limited but underpowered for constructed play. Zvi Mowshowitz really slams the set in his reviews on Star City. The title "Scars of Mirrodin Set Review: I Came Back for This?" sums things up pretty well. I strongly agree with him that Scars has fewer constructed playable cards than any set in a long time. If nothing else this will probably be a cheap set for me to collect though.

I agree with you, christian, about the weakness of this set. This set is very top heavy, meaning that the mythics and rares are about the only good cards in the set. All 3 planeswalkers are good, along with wurmcoil engine, mox ( which is ok, not good ), ratchetbomb, and masticore are all good, along with the spikeshot elder. Cedrick phillips convinced me about the elder. There are probably a few more good cards in scars, but I havent goten the oppurtunity to play vs. the majority of them yet. But let me say this, VENSER IS AWESOME!!!!!! I know that I dogged on him earlier, but I was wrong / stupid / dumb / misinformed!!! I played U/W control the last 3 tourneys. I dont have venser. But I played vs. the mirrormatch. My opponent HAD venser. Other than that, our lists were similar. I never came close to winning a single game! Venser is nuts in control, alowing you to slide out your own wall of omens. Imagine taking one of your opponents lands with volition reins. Your opponent plays a planeswalker. Slide out your own reins using venser. Blowout! Vensers emblem is unbeatable usually. You can even rescue a manland that your opponent has neutralized with spreading seas. You can reuse your journey to nowhere, recarge your planeswalkers, Anything. I am very hardheaded, all of you know this, but believe me when I say that venser is amazing! And I dont think that " cheap " can be used to describe this set. At least not where I live. Both koth and venser run $50 down here, with elspeth and the mox at $40. Wurmcoil engine sits at $20. What do you guys have to pay for those cards? ( I miss hobbyhorse prices!!!!!!!!!!!! )

Koth=$35, Venser=$30, Elspeth=$30, Mox Opal=$25 and Wurmcoil=$10. Good old Horse still has the best prices around:)

Tears. Agony. Misery. Sadness. Depression. Envy. In all seriousness, I really wish that I could make it back to the horse every once in a while to pick up cards, that would be awesome. Imagine paying $2 for a condemn or a durress. They still have path marked at $4 even after rotation! I miss the horse sometimes.

Venser is WAY too win more. It makes the control mirror a bit better, but makes aggro matches roughly 67 times worse. Drew top 8ed States here with a U/W control list we put together the night before, and litterally thanked me for telling him not to run Venser. Looking at it, the only maybe 2 matches it would have been good in he won anyway.

Maybe your right, but all that from my prespective, venser was amazing. Of course, I only played the mirror when my opponent had venser and I didnt, but it seemed downright crazy to play aginst. The emblem is just way to easy to obtain, and after you have it, you just cant lose.

And who is Drew? Did he play at the horse when I was there, or is he a newcomer?

I agree with Chris Mitchel, fuck that martin guy. As you may suspect, I have used a clever alias to desguise my true identity, much like Chris Mitchel. And don't even bother checking my ip, because I am on Dylan's computer! Haha!
